Summer finally came! Despite of this I lunged to the brush behind our carage to find some remains from last autumn to get these cute dragonflies done.
Tarvikkeet | What you need:
- vaahteran siemenkotia | Maple seedcases
- ohuita oksia | thin branches
- maalia, esim akryylimaalia | some paint, preferably acrylic
- kuumaliimaa | hot glue
Keräsin kourallisen suht hyvässä kunnossa olevia siemenkotia, joista tulee korentojen siivet. Syksyllä niitä olisi ollut paremmin saatavissa ja ne olisivat olleen parempikuntoisia. Tänä syksynä aion kerätäkin niitä varastoon ihan vaan varmuuden varalle. Keräsin samalla muutaman pudonneen oksan, joista teen korentojen rungot.
I collected a handful of maple seedcases that will become the wings. They would have been better available at autumn and would have been also in better condition. This autumn I will collect them no matter what just to be safe. I also collected a few fallen branches of which I will make the bodies.
Aloitin katkaisemalla oksista noin 10 cm pitkän, suunnilleen suoran osan ja poistin siitä silmut. Pieni epätasaisuus ei haittaa, koska näiden tuleekin olla sen näköisiä, että ne on tehty luonnonmateriaaleista. Katkaisin oksan vielä ohuemmasta osasta sentin mittaiset tuntosarvet.
I started by cutting about 10cm long stick of the branch and removed any buds from it. It doesn't matter if the stick is a bit uneven, I want these to look like they are made from natural materials. I also cut two 1cm long pieces to make the antennas.
Kokoamisen aloitin tekemällä ensin pään kuumaliimapallosta. Painoin heti kuumaan liimaan tuntosarvet kiinni, jotta niitä ei tarvitsisi erikseen liimata. En tehnyt näille erikseen silmiä, koska en löytänyt mitään hyvää materiaalia niihin. Sarvista tuli tukevat, kun liima jäähtyi.
I made the head of the dragonfly from hot glue. While it was still hot I pressed the antennas on their place to the head and let the glue cool down properly. I did not make any eyes because I didn't find any good material to make them from.
Seuraavaksi liimasin siivet paikalleen. Laitoin möykyn kuumaliimaa oksaan melko lähelle päätä ja painoin siemenkodan siihen kiinni. Pidin sitä paikallaan, kunnes liima jäähtyi sen verran, että siipi pysyi paikallaan. Sitten liimasin toisen siiven vastakkaiselle puolelle. Liimasin toisen siipisetin välittömästi ylempien alle ja annoin koko korennon kuivua rauhassa ennen maalausta. Viimeiseksi tein vielä korennon kehon kuumaliimasta oksan päälle.
Next step was to glue the wings. I put a lump of glue few millimeters from the head and pressed the seedcase on it. I held is still until the glue had cooled down so much that the wing did not move anymore. Then I glued the other wing on the other side of the stick. Once they had attached properly I glued the other set of wings right beneath them. Then I made the body of hot glue and let the whole thing cool down before painting
Viimeistelin korennot maalaamalla ne akryyliväreillä. Kummastakin tuli koriste, jonka liitin äitienpäivälahjaan. Saaja oli itse tehdyistä lahjoista otettu :)
Once cooled down, I finished both dragonflies by painting. Feel free to paint them in any color you like! These both became a part of mother's day present of which mom was flattered :)
