Helpot siluettitaulut | Easy Silhouette boards

Olin jo pitkään halunnut ikuistaa rakkaan koiralaumani jollain erikoisemmalla tavalla

tauluksi. Kun törmäsin tähän ihanaan ideaan, niin päätin tarttua toimeen. 

I had planned for a long time already to have some kind of paintings or image boards of our dogs. When I stumbbled upon this wonderful idea, I decided to take action.

Tarvikkeet / You'll need:

• Kuvia / Photographs
• Sakset tai askarteluveitsi / Exactoknife or scissors
• Paksua pahvia / Thick cardboard
• Liimaa ja kaksipuoleista teippiä / Glue and double-sided tape

Alkuperäisestä poiketen minulla oli jo valmiina kuvia, joita pystyin käyttämään taulukuvina. 

I already had some nice silhuette images of our pack so I didn't have to photograph anyone at this point. 

Kuvat | Photos

Aloitin tulostamalla kuvat mustavalkoisina ja mahdollisimman suurina. A4-koko oli enemmän pakko kuin vapaa valinta pienen lasertulostimeni vuoksi. Rajasin kuvat siten, että koirien päät tulivat kuvaan kunnolla. 

I started by printing the images in greyscale and as big as possible. A4 size was due to my small printer in this case. I cropped the heads of the dogs to be the silhouettes. 

Leikkaus | Cutting

Kun kuvat oli tulostettu, leikkasin siluetit irti askarteluveitsellä. Sakset ajavat tässä saman asian. Kuvat on hyvä olla selkeästi kontrastisia, jotta siluetti on helppo leikata irti. Se onnistuu vaikkapa kuvaamalla kohde selkeästi eri- mutta yksiväristä seinää vasten. Eli EI niin kuin minun kuvissani koirat on kuvattu :) 

Once printed I cut the profiles with exacto knife. Scissors will do the trick just as well. It's good to make sure the images have a good contrast. This makes it easier to cut out the profiles. You can do this by taking photos in front of a white wall. 

Tausta | Background

Seuraavaksi tulostin taustan taululle. Alkuperäisessä postauksessa siluetti maalattiin tauluun. Minun keskittymiskyvylläni päädyin tekemään hommasta astetta helpomman ja ainoastaan liimaamaan siluetin taustaansa. Sehän kun oli jo toiselta puoleltaan valmiiksi valkoinen. 

Halusin taustaksi vanhan sanomalehden, josta selkeä valkoinen pinta erottuu hyvin, joten etsin netistä sopivan kuvan. Tulostettuani sen liimasin siluetin taustaan ja jätin kuivumaan kunnolla. 

Next step was to find a background to the boards. In the original post they painted the profile to a canvas. With my attention span I decided to make it a bit easier (=quicker) and just glue the cut profile to the board. Which was easy to do as the profile was already white on the other side! 

I wanted to use old newspaper print as background, so I looked for a nice one from the web. After printing it I glued the profile to it and left it to dry. 

Taulupohjan teko | Making the actual board

Kuivumista odotellessa värkkäsin taulupohjan. Tein sen suorasta aaltopahvinpalasta leikkaamalla. Tähän ei siis tarvitse ostaa mitään valmista kanvastaulua!!! 

I made the board out of cardboard, so you don't need any canvas for this! Unless you want to use one, that is. 

Mittasin ensin taulun A4-arkin kokoiseksi, sitten sen ympärille 2cm reunat ja leikkasin sen irti. Sitten taitoin reunat ylös ja liimasin ne kulmistaan yhteen, jolloin sain aikaan illuusion kanvastaulusta. 

First I drew sides for A4 size to the board and then 2cm edges on each side and cut it off. Then I folded the sides as flaps to the back and glued them together to create an illusion of canvas. 

Käänsin sitten taulun toisin päin ja teippasin kaikkiin reunoihin kaksipuoleisen teipin niin, että osa teipistä oli taulun ulkopinnalla. Näin sain helposti teipattua tauluun valkoiset reunat tavallisesta tulostuspaperista (koska taustakuvan, johon siluetti on kiinnitetty, kohdalle ei tarvitse valkoista paperia!). 

After this I attached double-sided tape on each side so that part of it was on the edges. This way it was easy to attach white edges to the board (because the profile image doesn't need any white backcround). I used plain printing paper for it.

Kun profiilikuva oli kuivunut kunnolla, teippasin sen kaksipuoleisella teipillä tauluun. Näin kuvasta tuli tasainen eikä sen kuivumista tarvinnut enää odotella. 

Once the profile print had dried well I attached it to the board with double-sided tape. 

Valmiin taulun tekemiseen meni vajaa tunti, joten tämä ei ole mikään iso homma. Tulos on ehdottomasti vaivan arvoinen! 

It took less than an hour to make this so it's really a piece of cake. And the result is definitely worth the effort!

Lahjapaketti pahvista | Gift package from cardboard

Valmistautuessani taas yksiin kesän juhliin tuli mieleeni, että voisin tällä kertaa pakata lahjan eri tavalla kuin yleensä. Miksei yksinkertainenkin voisi olla kaunista?

I was getting ready for yet again one summer party when I started to think about new way of wrapping the gift. Why not make it simple and yet beautiful?

Tarvikkeet | You'll need:

• Pahvinen rasia, erimerkiksi keksipaketti | Cardboard box, e.g. cookie or cereal box
• Sakset ja viivotin | Scissors and a ruler
• Kuumaliimaa sekä tavallista paperiliimaa (ei välttämätöntä) | Hot glue and paper glue (later not necessary)
• Lyijykynä ja tussi | Pencil and marker

Avaa kaikki paketin liimapinnat ja leikkaa paketti puoliksi kapeammilta reunoilta. Siisti myös paketin päät yhtä korkeiksi sivujen kanssa.

Open all of the glued sides of the box and cut the box in half from the narrower sides. Cut also the ends to match the sides height.

Käännä laatikko nurinpäin ja liimaa kapeat reunat päätyihin kiinni. Päätä tässä vaiheessa, kummasta laatikosta tulee päälle tuleva kappale. Liimaa sen päätyihin reunapalat niin, että sivut ovat vähän ulkonevat. Näin valmis laatikko on helpompi sulkea.

Turn the box inside out and glue the sides to the end pieces. Decide now which one of the two boxes you just created will be the one on top. Glue the ends of this box so that the sides are bit more wider. This way the box is easy to close.

Kun olet saanut tehtyä laatikot valmiiksi, niin laita ne sisäkkäin. Once the boxes are glued and dried, close the newly created box by putting the other inside the other.

Luonnostele sitten paketin päälle haluamasi kuvio lyijykynällä. Minä halusin tehdä paketista perinteisen näköisen, mutta voit halutessasi vaikka maalata laatikon kokonaan ja tehdä siitä vaikka taideteoksen. Vain taivas on tässä rajana!!!

Draft on the box the drawing you want to draw on it. I made it very normal but you can make it as colorful and neat as you wish. Sky is your only limit!!!

Piirrä sitten tussilla valmis kuvio luonnoksen mukaan. Anna jäljen kuivahtaa hetken ja kumita sitten lyijykynän jäljet pois.

If you drew the decoration on the box like I did, draw now the lines with marker. Let the finished drawing dry for a moment. Then erase any pencil lines that were left visible.

Lahjapaketti on nyt valmis käyttöön! Aikaa sen tekoon meni vain vajaa tunti, joten ainakaan ajasta ei tämän teko ole kiinni :) Hauskoja juhlia! Now the box is ready for use! It took just little less than an hour so time should not be a problem :) Have fun at the party!
